Best Beyond Wine Shops of 2021

It’s hard to imagine ever wanting more than wine from a wine shop, but for those times that we do—whether that extra something is snacks, spirits, beer, non-alcoholic beverages or some good tunes—these are the shops we turn to.

Bacchanal Wine

New Orleans

What goes better with wine than music? This quintessentially New Orleans shop brings the two together in the most delightful way. Shop the store’s selection of small-production wines with an Old World spirit, pick up a wedge of cheese and some bread if you like, and then bring your findings out back to the “backyard party” to listen to a live band.

Elemental Spirits Co.

Atlanta

Next door to Manuel’s Tavern in what used to be the bar’s private dining room, Elemental Spirits dedicates its shelves to natural and low intervention wines, plus small-batch and rare spirits and local beer. Not sure what to choose? Pick up a Brunch Pack, Picnic Pack or Blind Date bottle. Make sure to check out the shop’s cocktail kits and soda selection, too.

Henry & Son

Minneapolis

A focus on natural wine extends into deep selections of cider, beer and non-alcoholic drinks made by “winemakers, brewers & distillers who are farmers, gardeners, horsemen & herdsmen; artists, chemists, philosophers & revolutionaries.” Looking for a “bagnum” of cider, a mini-keg of Kölsch or a Danish sparkling tea? This is the place.

La Cosecha

Washington, D.C.

Julio Robledo and Pedro Rodríguez, the owners of Grand Cata Latin American Wine Shop, which was one of 2020’s Best Wine Retailers, have done it again. La Cosecha is a Latin marketplace featuring food, coffee, home décor and art, with, of course, a Grand Cata outpost to round out the experience.

Wellspent Market

Portland, OR

Founder Jim Dixon calls himself a “recovering food writer.” In that stage of his life, he traveled the world sampling the very best. Now, he sells his findings—primarily pantry staples ranging from Portuguese sea salt to Sicilian olive oil to locally grown beans—at Wellspent Market. Alongside them, of course, is wine. Although the latter isn’t available for purchase online, the selection is wide-ranging and affordable.
