Spirits Sales are Up for 12th Consecutive Year, Led by High-End Tequila

In 2021, the spirits industry saw “strong growth” in sales, according to data released by Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS). The gradual but “challenging” reopening of bars and restaurants during the pandemic, coupled with consumers trading up to purchase high-end spirits at home, helped spur sales.

Last year, consumers gravitated to vodka, tequila, and American whiskey, especially as international tariff threats on the latter finally receded. And, for the second year in a row, the burgeoning ready-to-drink cocktail category saw stronger growth than any other spirits type.
